Volunteer

Are you being called to actively serve Christ in our community? Are you looking for your unique purpose?

CCA volunteers offer their time, talents, gifts and service in this vital, growing, Christian ministry. In return, they receive the great gift of being a functioning part of the Body of Christ in an atmosphere of family love and support. Birthday celebrations, volunteer luncheons, shared meals in the break room, laughter in the copy room—all part of the benefits package available to those who are ready to “step out of the boat” and walk with Jesus.

Christian Community In Action exits because individuals want to share their time and talents to help others in the community. We welcome you as a volunteer. You may select one or more of a wide variety of areas in which you might volunteer.

Volunteer Highlight

Doll Rescue Team

doll house

Numerous dolls arrive at the Dorcas Thrift Shop in need of repair. Loved by one or more children, many of the donated dolls have ‘bad hair’, dirty clothes, and missing foot ware. Barbies often arrive without any clothes. Some volunteers rescue these dolls from the recycle bin.

Toy Lady Lucy specializes in dolls in crisis. Weekly, many ailing dolls go to her home. At home, each doll first gets a bath-only the mildest soap is used. Clothes are washed and ironed. Foot ware and some clothes are added or replaced. The ‘bad hair’ dolls go to a neighbor across the street for quality hair styling.

Some dolls remain at home in various steps of repair. Weekly, sometimes on Wednesday, Lucy returns to the Shop with several “healthy” dolls. These are priced and put on the toy shelves.

Barbies, usually naked, go home with Betty on Tuesdays. These dolls get washed and their hair combed. The Barbies come back with brand new creatively styled clothing. Betty redresses numerous Barbies in the newest design for any occasion.

Because so many Barbies come in, weekly, Betty has Christ the King Lutheran church members cleaning Barbies and designing fashionable outfits. Dressed in original outfits, dolls return clean and chic Tuesday mornings. These Barbies are priced and go out to the toy area.

Daily, revitalized dolls go home to a child who gives them a special place in their hearts.
