Outreach

Christian Community In Action reaches out to those in need in several ministries:

Crisis Ministry

The CCA Crisis Ministry exists to serve local residents who find themselves in a temporary financial crisis, using proceeds from the Dorcas Thrift Shop. Trained, compassionate volunteers interview applicants to determine how CCA can best assist those in need. Assistance may be given with past-due necessary bills such as utilities, prescription medicine, or housing expenses (rent/mortgage). Residents of Cary and Morrisville may also receive food assistance from the CCA Food Pantry. Durable medical equipment supplies (that is, walkers, crutches, canes, or bedside commodes) are provided free of charge when in stock.

Applicants for financial assistance must provide proof of identity and residence in one of the supported townships: Cary, Morrisville, New Hill, or Friendship. Residents of Apex and Holly Springs may be assisted with referral from Western Wake Crisis Ministry in Apex.

Food Pantry

The food pantry is stocked by a variety of sources, but most important are the gifts of food from individuals. At times our stock becomes a bit unbalanced, that is we have a large stock of some items while we may be out of other items.

The following list identifies items that are either low in our stock or are totally out of stock. If you would like to help, we would welcome a gift of any of these items.

  • Cereal
  • Canned fruit
  • Spaghettios/Ravioli
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Canned salmon
  • Sugar (2 lb. bag)
  • Flour (2 lb. bag)
  • Peanut butter & jelly
  • Rice
  • Canned potatoes
  • Dried milk
  • crackers

You may bring your contribution to the drop-off area at the Dorcas Thrift Shop building, Monday-Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday 9:00am to 6:00pm, Sunday 1:00pm to 6:00pm.

Educational Assistance

In 2006, CCA awarded 80 local Children Tuition Scholarships. This was an increase from 68 children in 2005 and 55 children in 2004. By March, 2007, CCA has helped parents by investing in 42 children scholarships this year and CCA continues receiving applications. The need this year is greater than ever before. It is through this type of giving and prayer that childcare scholarship members help mothers/fathers with daycare expenses. Members reach out in Jesus' name to children in need of long-term education. To receive tuition assistance, parents complete an application giving financial and child-related reasons the child will benefit from a scholarship. After a phone interview and a home visit, the committee often awards a daycare, a preschool, a before- or after-school care, or a camp scholarship. Contact CCA to get a scholarship form if financial assistance is needed for child tuition and if the child lives in Cary, Morrisville, or southwest Wake County towns in CCA's service area. For more information, see our Child Tuition Scholarship guidelines.

The Margaret Keller Adult Education Scholarships provide financial help to young women to empower them by helping them pursue higher education. This includes assistance for tuition, books and supplies, child care, or travel expenses (in the form of gas vouchers) so they can pursue studies that range from early college to graduate courses at local colleges and universities, including online courses. This small financial support assists them in obtaining their goals to become productive, self-sufficient members of the community. Each year, the Margaret Keller Scholarships help six to ten individuals. CCA makes payments directly to the approved school, bookstore, daycare center. Gasoline vouchers help with transportation. We recommend that clients apply for any state or federal funds. This program fills the gap of financial need that other sources do not fill. For more information, see our Margaret Keller Adult Education Scholarships guidelines.
