In Memory of Those Who ServedElsie Williams died October 12, 2006. Elise served on the committee that organized CCA and remained a dedicated volunteer. Her special ministry was to the prison inmates; she gathered books, magazines, and toiletries from CCA and took them to the prisons. She also shared her time with the inmates. She is truly missed by CCA volunteers. Robert McFeathers died in October 2005. Robert was a dedicated volunteer with CCA for many years. He was very instrumental in the start up of CCA. He was a multi-skilled volunteer who did everything from setting up store fixtures to playing Santa Claus at Christmas events. He is much missed by CCA volunteers. Helen Anthony Schulz died September 20, 2005. She was an active and dedicated volunteer with CCA serving as president and as the Dorcas Thrift Shop day manager. She will be greatly missed by the many volunteers with whom she worked.
Pete Murdock died Friday, August 5, 2005. Pete is survived by his wife Helen and two sons. Pete, along with Helen, volunteered in the Dorcas Thrift Shop on Tuesdays. Pete was a WWII Veteran and was best known as the proprietor of Pete's Hardware for thirty-five years. He belonged to numerous civic organizations in the area including Rotary, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, served as Chief of the Volunteer Cary Fire Department, and made many other charitable contributions to the community. A volunteer commented of Pete, "We will miss his pleasant disposition." Nan Farley died January 25, 2005. Parts of Jills tribute: Nan was a Crisis Ministry (then called Social Concerns) volunteer since 2000 and had a heart the size of Texas. She was also CCA historian. She was a retired librarian and served in several other volunteer capacities up until her recent heart surgery, and she hated having to slow down. Even when she couldn't get around very well, she still came into the office and interviewed clients. When things were slow, she'd say, Bring me some files to put in order! Join me in prayers and thanksgiving for this lovely lady with a spirit much stronger than her body. Howard Beard died January 2, 2005. He was a Wednesday Dorcas Thrift Shop volunteer and his friends will miss the laughter, including his much enjoyed jokes, that he brought the volunteers each day. Howard was a retired Baptist minister. Many CCA volunteers shared memories with the family during the visitation prior to the celebration of life service. Following our guidelines, CCA made a donation in Howards memory to N.C. Baptist Mens Disaster Relief. |
